Transportation & Logistics

In today’s highly competitive market, greater efficiencies in transportation, logistics and manufacturing are being demanded, imposing enormous external and internal pressures on the Canadian economy.

Elgin County, located in Southwestern Ontario is a major transportation hub and a thriving and growing engine, driving economic success as Ontario’s gateway to the world.

Recent estimates suggest that 53% of products exported to the U.S. and 78% of all imports are transported by truck, making logistics a large and viable contributor to communities along transportation routes.

In 2004, logistics firms in Canada totaled $38 billion U.S. in revenue, with trucking hauling in 68% of the business revenues.

  • Elgin County’s location on Highway 401 positions our businesses within easy reach of the Greater Toronto Area and the Windsor border crossing.
  • Proximity to Highways 402 and 403 connects the County to U.S. border crossings at Sarnia, Fort Erie and Niagara Falls.

In recent years, Elgin County has seen a significant increase in transportation firms moving to their area to take advantage of their strategic location, the availability of industrial real estate, and various manufacturers found along this major corridor.

In addition to accessible roads, businesses in the County and the City of St. Thomas can connect to air, rail and marine shipping channels.
